1 MULTI-CHANNEL SPEECH ENHANCEMENT IN A CAR ENVIRONMENT USING WIENER FILTERING AND SPECTRAL SUBTRACTION Joerg Meyer and Klaus Uwe Simmer University of Bremen, FB{1, Dept. of Telecommunications P.O. This new algorithm takes advantage of the special noise characteristics in fast driving cars. The incoherence of the noise allows to use adaptive Wiener ltering in the frequencies above a theoretically determined frequency. Below this frequency a smoothed spectral subtraction (SSS) is used to get an improved noise suppression. The algorithm yields better results in noise reduction with signi cantly less distortions and arti cial noise than spectral subtraction or Wiener ltering alone.

Speech Enhancement Using Gaussian Mixture Models, Explicit Bayesian Estimation and Wiener Filtering

Gaussian Mixture Models (GMMs) of power spectral densities of speech and noise are used with explicit Bayesian estimations in Wiener filtering of noisy speech. No assumption is made on the nature or stationarity of the noise. No voice activity detection (VAD) or any other means is employed to estimate the input SNR. The GMM mean vectors are used to form sets of over-determined system of equatio...

Modified Kalman Filter-based Approach in Comparison with Traditional Speech Enhancement Algorithms from Adverse Noisy Environments

Abstract -The paper presents a new speech enhancement approach for a single channel speech enhancement in a noise environment. In this method speech is mixed with real-world noises from babble, car and street environments. In this paper we proposed modified Kalman method for effective speech enhancement. The proposed method is compared to the traditional Spectral Subtraction (SS), Wiener Filter...

Robust Speech Recognition for Adverse Environments

As the state-of-the-art speech recognizers can achieve a very high recognition rate for clean speech, the recognition performance generally degrades drastically under noisy environments. Noise-robust speech recognition has become an important task for speech recognition in adverse environments. Recent research on noise-robust speech recognition mostly focused on two directions: (1) removing the...

Wavelet transform-based speech enhancement

This paper describes a speech enhancement system using a novel combination of a Fast Wavelet Transform structure, together with “Wiener filtering” in the wavelet domain. The specific application of interest is the enhancement of speech when a cellular phone is used within a moving vehicle. Subjective tests carried out using speech with additive vehicle noise at a signal-to-noise ratio of 10 dB ...

Speech enhancement using 2-D Fourier transform

This paper presents an innovative way of using the two-dimensional (2-D) Fourier transform for speech enhancement. The blocking and windowing of the speech data for the 2-D Fourier transform are explained in detail. Several techniques of filtering in the 2-D Fourier transform domain are also proposed. They include magnitude spectral subtraction, 2-D Wiener filtering as well as a hybrid filter w...
